The Energy Demand Research Centre (EDRC) will be transitioning its lead institutional base to the University of Birmingham in January 2026, following the appointment of Professor Mari Martiskainen as one of the university’s prestigious .
Professor Martiskainen, Director of EDRC and Professor of Energy and Society, joined Sussex in 2006 and acted as a Co-Director of Sussex Energy Group during 2022-2024. She successfully secured the £15m UKRI-funded EDRC in 2023 and has led the Centre from her position at the Business School. She will continue to direct EDRC from Birmingham, ensuring continuity in leadership and strategic direction.
Importantly, Sussex will remain a core partner in EDRC. The University will continue to play a central and strategic role in the Centre’s research, collaborations, and development. The move marks a new phase for EDRC, but our expertise will remain integral to its success.
