This course is set at Level 6 in the national Framework for Higher Education Qualifications.

Course learning outcomes

Demonstrate a systematic understanding of the molecular, cellular and network level mechanisms that regulate physiology and behaviour, together with an awareness of the major research techniques used to study them and their limitations.

Demonstrate an understanding of how neuroscience and related disciplines are underpinned by both fundamental and contemporary concepts in mathematics, statistics, informatics, chemistry and physics.

Effectively interpret data and ideas from a variety of sources of information, including technical literature in neuroscience and psychology.

Work independently and in a team to solve problems and complete tasks.

Convey complex ideas in a variety of ways in a clear, concise and grammatically correct style, using an appropriate format and demonstrating academic integrity.

Devise and communicate effective and logical written arguments and conclusions, through critical evaluation of scientific evidence and concepts, including an appreciation of limitations in our knowledge.

Design, plan and analyse research studies in the biosciences, and understandhow experiments are used to test a hypothesis.

Plan, manage and present an independent research project, applying and extending skills in collection, analysis and critical evaluation of information from primary research or scientific literature, within a supported framework.

Demonstrate understanding and application of a range of practical and analytical techniques used in neuroscience.

Appreciate the significance of neuroscience research and for advancing health and addressing societal challenges, and recognise the value of contemporary scientific skills for professional practices across diverse career paths.

Understand critically the core areas of psychology, including biological, cognitive, developmental, social, and individual differences

Apply psychological concepts and methods to analyse complex real-world or interdisciplinary problems, showing how psychological knowledge can inform broader societal or professional contexts.

Reflect on the scientific foundations of psychology and evaluate what it means for psychology to be a scientific discipline.
