Media Production: Research and Context (P3092)

30 credits, Level 5

Spring teaching

On this module, you’ll develop your skills in critical reflection and communication by integrating relevant theories and debates that contextualise creative media production. The module focuses on refining your ability to present creative work for:

  • galleries
  • festivals
  • competitions
  • exhibitions
  • interviews
  • graduate applications.

You’ll do this by exploring formats such as artist statements and reflective essays.

You’ll look at key critical discourses and theoretical ideas in media production, including:

  • representation and identity
  • materiality and technology
  • ethics and politics.

As part of the module, you’ll learn to interrogate media artefacts by exploring the cultural, social and political contexts in which they are produced, shared and received. You’ll learn to analyse how critically savvy artists and media practitioners present themselves in relationship to histories of media, art and critical thinking, and how they enter relationships with their audiences.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
